Ok, as it turns out, the iPhone is NOT the greatest phone ever, for me. Could I have eventually dealt with the fact that I type about as fast as a 3 year old… Probably. Could I have eventually gotten over the fact that I have fat-thumb disease… Maybe. But the one thing I just can NOT sacrifice is the so-sub-par its too sub-par to be sub-par battery life. It is absolutely pathetic, and very unlike Apple. I will say this though, that phone/company/community sure do make some tight apps. Only problem being, after downloading them, I’m going to want to play with them, and the battery won’t last that long. Boo…
That being said, I went a back to AT&T and got myself they new Blackberry Bold. I gotta tell ya, for everything that mattered to me, the Blackberry wins hands down. One of the biggest downfalls for me was, the virtual keyboard. Although Apple did a nice job, almost perfect job, with auto-correct, its just not good enough. If you don’t have thumbs the size of an 8 year olds pinkies, you will make mistakes… Lots of them. With the BB’s QWERTY keyboard, I’m back to speed texting/emailing once again.
For me, when it comes to the calendar, notes/tasks, camera/video recorder (which Apple doesn’t have), and a few other things like that, the Blackberry is superior. When it comes to those things, simplicity, speed, and ease are what you need. It shouldn’t take night classes at the local community college to remember to go to the dentist next Thursday. For me, that’s what it took. Now, in all fairness, it could very-well be part fat-thumb disease, and part brain being pre-trained for Blackberry so I’m looking for things in the wrong places, etc, but I could just never get a grasp on the whole, touchy touchy thing. I will miss those apps though. I mean, c’mon… How cool is UrbanSpoon and Loopt and Shazam… Just to name a few. I had fun playing with Zippo Lighter® as much as the next guy, but I just couldn’t get past the fundamentals of the phone lacking so much.
I’ve moved on, and couldn’t be happier. The Bold is quite an upgrade from it’s predecessor. They still could do some upgrading in certain areas, but to finally get to REAL HTML mail is heavenly.
I don’t know, I think I’m just weird and am asking for too much out of my cell phone, but hey, they make ‘em, I just use ‘em.
I’m sure there are more Blackberry Bold ramblings to come. Stay tuned.
And yes, the back of the phone is black leather. It’s cool as hell and feels wonderful in your hand.
